What Is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a type of disorder in the functioning of pancreatic cells producing insulin that results in the poor control of blood sugar levels in the body. Most of the people think that it's just the under secretion of diabetes that leads to malfunctioning of the body but the reverse is also quite dangerous. When your body starts producing insulin in an abnormally large quantities, that results in the break down of glucose at a furious rate and as such your body has to face an acute shortage of glucose. The result is weakness, loss of energy and in some cases may plunge the patient into a mortal coma. This type of diabetes is called Diabetes Inchus. The more common form of diabetes with hypo-secretion of insulin is called Diabetes Mellitus.

There are two major types of diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is caused by a severe lack of insulin in the body. In this type of diabetes all most all of the pancreatic cells are destroyed. This occurs more often in people under 40, especially children. The disease can be controlled with the use of insulin shots and proper diet. This type of diabetes can lead to comas.

Type 2 diabetes appears in people over the age of forty. The body still produces insulin but not enough to support he body. This is considered to be a mild form of diabetes because it does not cause comas, and can be treated with diet usually, though it does sometimes require insulin. However, type 2 diabetes can cause heart disease, foot problems, blindness, and other serious problems.

Although in most of the cases, diabetes is a disease that lasts a life time. So, what can be done to keep its effect to a minimum? One thing should be kept in mind that you would have to follow a strict diabetic diet plan.
